Hunger Free Oklahoma receives $50,000 grant to support SNAP outreach

Tuesday, June 15, 2021 (Tulsa, OK) – Hunger Free Oklahoma (HFO) announced today it has received a $50,000 grant from Telligen Community Initiative (TCI), a private, Iowa-based charitable foundation. This partnership supports HFO’s efforts to build public-private partnerships that connect more families to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, equip community organizations to serve as SNAP access points, and provide public education on the positive impact of SNAP and SNAP enrollment in Oklahoma communities.

“We are grateful for TCI’s partnership in the effort to end hunger in Oklahoma,” said Chris Bernard, executive director of HFO. “Through a comprehensive approach – bringing government and the private sector together to leverage resources and expertise – we are building a strong network of SNAP access points across communities.”

“As the public health aspects of the pandemic transition to a new phase, the economic conditions left by its impact – namely hunger and housing – will be something we address for some time,” said Matt McGarvey, executive director of TCI. “Telligen Community Initiative is proud to support Hunger Free Oklahoma as they work diligently to address food insecurity across the state through outreach and training.”

Telligen Community Initiative works to support projects in the priority funding areas of health innovation, health care workforce development, and access to care for the underserved. Since 2014, TCI has awarded more than $11.75 million to 286 organizations and projects in Iowa, Illinois, Oklahoma, and Colorado.

Hunger Free Oklahoma is one of only eight Oklahoma-based nonprofit organizations to receive a 2021 TCI grant.
