HFO Staff Connect with Libraries

by Alissa Snider, Hunger Outreach Program Specialist

Earlier this month, HFO team members joined the Oklahoma Library Association (OLA) annual conference in Norman. During this two-day event, HFO staff engaged with public, school-based, and university library staff about opportunities to address hunger in their communities. HFO had the opportunity to share ways to get connected in anti-hunger work, as well as presented in a Friday morning session.

Libraries are in a unique position to reach their communities, as they can serve as an information hub. This is why libraries can be fantastic partners in their communities to assist in providing food resources and even food itself in the effort to fight hunger.

With the school year winding down, the topics of Summer Meals and the Summer Reading Program were at the forefront of conversations, along with interest about SNAP assistance, Afterschool Meals, and the Double Up Oklahoma program.

If you are interested in getting connected or learning about resources, visit our Library webpage, fill out your “Libraries Ending Hunger Organizational Profile,” and we will reach out to you! You can also connect with Alissa Snider, Hunger Outreach Program Specialist, via email for more information.

Thank you to the Oklahoma Library Association for another successful event and to the network of libraries across the state helping to end hunger.
