11/13/2025 – Tulsa, OK: Hunger Free Oklahoma welcomes the end of the federal government shutdown and the restoration of critical SNAP benefits. We hope that in the next day or two, full SNAP benefits will be distributed in Oklahoma to help our friends and neighbors put food on the table, support jobs up and down the supply chain, and help local economies thrive.
Though this provides some relief to Oklahoma SNAP households, the fact remains that a tremendous amount of hardship has already been faced and significant damage done.
We will likely never be able to fully measure the long-term impacts of this shutdown on people’s financial wellbeing, or their physical and mental health, but we will see evidence of it in our schools, in our nonprofits, in our communities, and in our trust in our government institutions.
We urge our leaders at both the federal and state levels of government to ensure that this scenario can never happen again. At the federal level, we need legislation that guarantees continuous SNAP funding, even in a government shutdown. We also need our state leaders to design a plan of action for a scenario in which SNAP is not funded by the federal government on a temporary basis.
Hunger Free Oklahoma remains committed to partnering with state agencies, community organizations, and local leaders to strengthen our food system and ensure that every Oklahoman has reliable access to nutritious food, no matter what happens.
