Oklahoma City, OklahomaAugust 2, 2024 – Mayor David Holt officially declared August 4-10 as Oklahoma City Farmers Market Week in alignment with National Farmers Market Week, celebrating the local farmers and producers who contribute to Oklahoma City’s rich agricultural heritage.

This proclamation highlights the role of farmers markets in promoting local agriculture, supporting small businesses, and enhancing community health and wellness. Oklahoma City will join nationwide efforts to recognize the importance of farmers markets in providing fresh, nutritious food to communities.

Double Up Oklahoma, a program of Hunger Free Oklahoma, similarly supports local agriculture, small businesses, and enhanced nutrition by doubling the purchasing power of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) at participating farmers markets, empowering SNAP and Double Up customers to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers. Oklahoma City hosts the following markets that participate in Double Up Oklahoma:

  • OKC Farmers Public Market (311 S. Klein Ave.) – Open Saturdays 9 a.m.-2 p.m. year-round
  • Scissortail Park Farmers Market (415 S. Robinson Ave.) – Open Saturdays 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and bi-weekly Wednesday evenings 6-9 p.m. between April and October.
  • NEOKC Farmers Market (1920 N. Kate Ave.) – Open Saturdays 9 a.m.-1 p.m. between mid-July and late September.
  • Eastside Fresh Market (2500 NE 63rd) – Open Tuesdays 4-7 p.m. from late April through late October.
  • Flora Bodega (3020 N. Walker Ave. Suite B) – Open daily 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m. year-round

During Oklahoma City Farmers Market Week, emphasis will be placed on initiatives that address food insecurity and promote equitable access to fresh produce. “Double Up Oklahoma not only addresses food insecurity but also strengthens local economies by keeping food dollars within the community and supporting farmers who grow healthy, affordable food. We are grateful to the Market Managers for their partnership and commitment to source local produce for their markets,” said Leslie Young, Senior Double Up Oklahoma Program Manager with Hunger Free Oklahoma.

Mayor Holt encourages residents of Oklahoma City to visit their local farmers markets, engage with local farmers and producers, and explore the variety of fresh, seasonal produce available. By supporting Oklahoma City Farmers Market Week and National Farmers Market Week, residents can celebrate Oklahoma’s agricultural heritage.
